Uber Director General Dara Khosrowshahi wants Tesla to use the Uber app for his future Robotaxi business, meaning people will see Self-directional Teslas as an option in the Uber app.
Tesla revealed ridicule with her travel greeting app in April, but in an interview with Stratechery, KhosroWHAhi says Tesla can still benefit from using the existing Uber app.
He makes an analogy with McDonald’s, who “has its own app, and has an extraordinary brand, has a lot of capital, has a scary achievement, [but] They still work with Uber Eats and Dobordash. ”

It can be more cost effective for Tesla to work with Uber than to build and increase its app. “Economic laws apply to Tesla, just as they make every other car company,” KhosroWHAHI says.
Waymo plans to rank his autonomous trips to the Uber app in Austin and Atlanta this year. Waymo started his service by providing travel through his own app, Waymo One, and is now expanding to Uber. Khosrowshahi is suggesting that Tesla can follow the same path.

Tesla plans to launch a robotax business in Austin in June with his model 3 and model Y EVS. However, Tesla has a story not to meet CEO Elon Musk’s ambitious deadlines. There are some regulatory obstacles to overcome.
Austin city website currently lists six known AV operators for the city: Admt, Avride, Volkswagen, GM’s Cruise (RIP), Hyundai’s Motion, Waymo and Amazon’s Zoox.
Last fall, Tesla first Cybercab and its cyber robotaxia – none of which includes steering wheels – but they are not expected to start production by 2026 or 2027.
“This is not a distant mythical situation,” Musk said the tesla robotaxi ambitions last month. “Literally [a] A kind of five months. “That said,” we just want to be careful … put a toe in the water, [and] Make sure everything is okay, then put some other fingers in the water, then put a foot in the water with the safety of the wide public and those in the car as our main advantage. “

Musk says he is sure the company will quickly expand to California later in 2025, followed by “many regions of … US by the end of this year”.
As Uber’s CEO notes, about 150,000 of its drivers already use Teslas, so it would be appropriate for them to continue using Uber after being improved on the full self-direction software (without supervision) of Tesla. Musk suggested that his Robotaxi service can allow Tesla owners to rent their cars for autonomous trips.
If Tesla does not work with Uber, “some other OEM” will, Khosrowshahi argues, such as General Motors, who is working to integrate Cruise’s self-driving technology into her passenger vehicles.
Economic arguments aside, KhosroWHAHi admits that “no one wants to compete against Tesla or Elon, if you can help them. Their abilities are pretty extraordinary,” he says. “After all, we are hoping that my charm and the economic argument make Tesla work with us too. If they want a direct channel, there is no problem.”
